The local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is asking Columbus police to investigate Saturday night's beating of a Somali woman by a white man as a hate crime. The group says the woman intervened to protect another Muslim woman from harassment by the man and was beaten unconscious, resulting in facial fractures and the loss of several teeth. She says the man screamed "you all will be shipped back to Africa" prior to beating. The woman is hospitalized and police say they are investigating.
