The City of Columbus is contracting with a tech company to create an app that will allow police to send crime and traffic alerts to smartphones.
The 72 thousand dollar, three-year contract with MobilePD will create the app that will send push notifications, allow users to submit crime tips and directly communicate with police. City Council member Emmanuel Remy co-sponsored the legislation approved by the panel this week.
Deputy Columbus police chief Thomas Quinlan says the app will be a one-stop-shop for officers and the public.

The app is expected to launch this fall.
