August Jobless Rate Down From July

Ohio's unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a point to 4.7 percent in August, the lowest level since September 2001.  The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services credits a decline in the number of unemployed workers and hiring in several sectors. 265 thousand Ohioans were officially unemployed last month, down by 21-thousand from July. The department says non-farm employers hired 14 thousand 6 hundred workers last month, raising payrolls to more than 5.4 million. The largest job gains were in the construction, professional and business services, trade, transportation and utilities, and leisure and hospitality sectors. The largest job losses were in the manufacturing, mining and logging sectors. Ohio's unemployment rate is four-tenths of a point below the national rate.
