Bexley City Council today is expected to approve legislation banning plastic bags and other plastic products.
It would be the first city in Ohio to implement a plastic bag ban. The ban is expected to take effect in January of next year. It also bars businesses from giving customers non-compostable or non-recyclable food containers and plastic silverware. That measure would take effect in January 2021. The goal is to limit the environmental harms from plastic pollution. But a bill recently introduced by Ohio House Republicans blocks communities from taking such actions. Opponents say the bans are burdensome for businesses.
