Bill Requires People Convicted Of Domestic Violence To Surrender Their Guns

Legislation is being proposed in the Ohio House requiring people to surrender firearms to law enforcement agencies if they've been convicted of domestic violence or served with a civil protection order. The bill also allows judges to order the surrender of firearms while a temporary restraining order is in place. The bill is meant to mirror federal law prohibiting gun possession by people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence charges and subject to permanent protection orders. FBI data shows 185 Ohioans have been shot and killed in domestic violence cases in the past decade.
