Boehner and DeWine Subpoenaed In Veterans Charity Fraud Case

Leading Ohio Republicans including U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and the state attorney general have been subpoenaed to testify in a $100 million multi-state fraud case.

Court documents in Cleveland show subpoenas also were issued for testimony by two predecessors of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, who has directed the fraud investigation. DeWine's office says he has no personal knowledge of any fraud crimes and will seek to quash the subpoena.  There was no immediate comment from the speaker. The man who calls himself Bobby Thompson is scheduled to go on trial Monday on charges of defrauding people who donated to a reputed charity for Navy veterans. He made generous campaign donations, often to Republicans. DeWine says the donations aren't essential to the fraud case.
