Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio said in a statement Friday that after careful consideration and meeting this week with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, he will not support the nomination.
Brown told reporters this week Kavanaugh's decisions as a lower court judge show a pattern of ruling in favor of corporations and against labor and consumer interests. Brown also said Kavanaugh has shifted his position on presidential power since being an advisor to the Republican effort to impeach Bill Clinton.
Confirmation hearings are scheduled to begin next month.
