Buckeye Lake Chamber Wants New Dam Study

The regional chamber of commerce at Buckeye Lake says it will seek a second expert opinion following a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report warning of a catastrophic dam failure. The report concluded there is a high risk of failure. Ohio plans to replace the dam and keep water at lower winter levels to protect lives and property.  Officials at the Buckeye Lake Region Chamber of Commerce hope a second opinion will push the state to replace the dam faster with less damage to local businesses.  The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says it will start draining the lake today.  At least ten inches of water must be removed to maintain winter levels of three feet.
