Cincinnati Council Member Allegedly Sold Her Vote

twitter.com

A Cincinnati City Council member was arrested Tuesday on federal charges of offering to sell her vote.

Democrat Tamaya Dennard faces a March 16 hearing on charges of honest services wire fraud, bribery and attempted extortion. She was released on her own recognizance but ordered to surrender her passport. The FBI says someone contacted law enforcement and worked with the agency. Prosecutors say Dennard offered to help a law firm's client with favorable votes in exchange for 15-thousand-dollars last year, and she quickly spent more than 4 thousand on a trip for two to Florida. Dennard's attorney says she is innocent until proven guilty. She is one of five council members who admitted violating Ohio's open meetings law by conducting city business via text messages.
