Cleveland To Correct The Record About Heisman's Birthplace

clevelandareahistory.com

In 1978, a state historic marker was placed in front of the Cleveland birthplace of legendary football coach John Heisman.

As it turns out, the marker was placed at the wrong house.  Cleveland City Council and Mayor Frank Jackson have now designated 3928 Bridge Avenue as the true birthplace of the Heisman Trophy namesake, not 2825 Bridge Avenue.  A new historic marker will soon be created and put in its proper place with one additional correction:  Heisman's birthdate was listed incorrectly on the original marker.
