Columbus Council Approves Tax Break, Placing South Side Eatery On Historic Registry

waymarking.com

Columbus City Council last night approved a pair of income tax breaks for a poultry processing equipment maker to move and expand its east side facility.

Prime Equipment is moving from Fulton Street to Courtright Road, creating 20 new jobs in the process. The breaks will save the company at least 35 thousand dollars over five years on income tax employees pay the city. Council also approved legislation formally adding a south side drive-in to the Columbus Register of Historic Properties. Becky West of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation says Dan’s Drive In on South High Street was built in 1958.

West says Dan's is one of three drive ins along High Street. One is now a chain restaurant, and Michael's Goody Boy remains operational in the Short North. Council also approved spending 1.2 million dollars to build new sidewalks and make other pedestrian infrastructure improvements in the West Olentangy and Near South neighborhoods.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
