Columbus City Council last night approved a five dollar increase in vehicle registration fees.
This is similar to the five dollar increase that took effect in Franklin County this year, meaning Columbus residents will now pay 65 dollars to register a vehicle. As with the county's increase, sponsoring Council member Shayla Favor says this hike will fund road and bridge improvements:
Favor also sponsored a measure approved last night spending 1.1 million dollars on professional services related to a new autonomous shuttle service for Linden residents:
The free shuttle service as part of the Smart City efforts will provide rides from the Linden Transit Center to the St. Stephen’s Community House, with stops at the Douglas Community Center and the Rosewind Resident Council. The shuttles will run from 6am to 8pm starting later this year. Council also approved a 1 million dollar contract with a Dublin firm to assess structural and debris problems in thousands of feet of storm sewers. Sponsoring Council member Rob Dorans:
The project involves large-diameter lines in an area bounded by West Broad Street Alton Darby Creek Road, Cemetery Road and Riverside Drive.
