Columbus Expanding Voluntary Police Naloxone Distribution Program

The City of Columbus is spending 20 thousand dollars to purchase 329 doses of the opioid antidote naloxone for use by police. Assistant Columbus safety director Cathy Collins says the purchase will allow for the expansion of a pilot program launched last summer.

Collins says participating officers administered naloxone 58 times last year, and 85 times so far this year. Ohio leads the nation in opioid overdose deaths.
