Columbus police and city officials say they will be transparent during the investigation into last night's fatal shooting of a 13-year-old by a Columbus officer.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery and spotted three males matching the report's descriptions. Police say two of them fled and were chased into an alley, where the boy pulled a weapon from his waistband and was shot by Bryan Mason, a nine-year-veteran of the force. The teenager, identified as Tyre King, had a pellet gun that looked like a real police firearm. Columbus police chief Kim Jacobs says the investigation will take time.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther delivered an emotinal response to the shooting.

City officials encouraged anyone with more information or video from the shooting to contact police. The incident marks the 13th police-involved shooting in Columbus this year. Out of those, five individuals were killed and one police officer also died.
