Columbus police say police brutality protests on Sunday was broken up by officers along High Street near the Statehouse.
Police used chemical agents and bikes while pushing people into wooden signs protesters were holding. Protests over the last two weeks have seen no arrests, no property damage and no clashes. Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther tweeted Sunday the use of chemical agents was “appropriate.” Police say protestors were blocking the street. One person, 26-year-old Douglas Herring III, was arrested on a charge of assaulting an officer.
Meanwhile, Worthington Police are asking for photos or video documenting social media reports of a clash Saturday in which a police brutality protester was allegedly shoved by a driver. A protest blocked the intersection of State Route 161 and High Street. Police so far have said the rumors are unsubstantiated or incorrect.
