Coroner Reports Fourteen Percent Increase In Local Drug Overdose Deaths Last Year

The Franklin County Coroner's office says nearly 600 people died from drug overdoses in 2019. 

597 people died last year, a 14 percent increase from 2018. Opioid-related deaths accounted for nearly 91 percent of the fatalities, up 13 percent from 2018 and up 28 percent from 2017.  Fentanyl accounted for 81 percent of last year's deaths. Nearly 66 percent of the deaths last year were people between the ages of 25 and 54. Sixty nine percent were males.
