Court Rejects Appeal Of Former Deputy State Treasurer

WCBE files

A former deputy state treasurer has lost his appeal of his 15-year prison sentence for bribery, wire fraud and money laundering. The Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has dismissed Amer Ahmad's appeal because he remains a fugitive. Ahmad was sentenced in absentia last December for running a 3.2 million dollar kickback scheme while in office in 2009 and 2010. Prosecutors say he fled to Pakistan in April of last year.  Three co-conspirators have also been sentenced to prison time.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
