Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is calling on the General Assembly to repeal and replace House Bill 6, the contentious nuclear plant bailout passed last year, in light of information coming out in the bribery and conspiracy investigation into House Speaker Larry Householder.
"While the policy in my opinion is good, the process by which it was created stinks."
DeWine says he has asked the Legislature to repeal and replace the bill, in an open way that can restore public confidence. He says he continues to support the states two nuclear power plants calling them an important part of the Ohio's energy portfolio, that provide jobs for 1,500 Ohioans.
Speaker Householder and four others were arrested Tuesday on racketeering charges for allegedly taking $60 million dollars from FirstEnergy in exchange for the bailout of its Ohio power plants.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers announced Wednesday they have begun work drafting replacement bills.
