Disposal of military surplus given to CPD under investigation

Two Columbus police officers are under an internal investigation related to military surplus items given to the division through a long-term federal program.

No charges have been filed against either officer.  While reviewing various programs and operations, new police chief Kimberly Jacobs says she discovered potential irregularities in the division's handling of property, and initiated the investigation.  Federal law allows the Defense Department to transfer military surplus equipment to local law enforcement divisions.
