Early Voting Totals In Ohio Far Ahead Of Last MidTerm Elections

The Ohio Secretary of State's office says more than 1.3 million people voted ahead of Tuesday's election, far outpacing the number of votes cast early statewide four years ago.

Officials say that through Monday, nearly 885,000 absentee ballots had been received by mail statewide and that 430,000 people voted early in person. That compares with 865,000 early votes in 2014.  The total number of votes cast statewide in 2014 was 3.1 million. Around 8 million Ohioans are registered to vote.

Franklin County saw a similar bump in early voting.  150,000 voted ahead of election day, 50,000 more than in 2014.   Since early in-person voting began lst month, over 50-thousand people came to the Morse Road headquarters to cast their ballot, more than a third of them in the past four days.  Registered Democrats led Republicans in early voting. Independents comprised the largest share of ballots cast.
