Ex-Con Charged With Possessing Weapon During Columbus Protest

Columbus Division of Police

A convicted felon has been charged with carring a loaded weapon during a police brutality protest in Columbus on June 24.

31-year-old Ronnie Murdock Junior of Columbus allegedly had a semiautomatic rifle and 31 rounds of ammo as protestors marched near Broad and Front Streets. He pleaded guilty in 2007 to attempted burglary and pleaded guilty to robbery in 2016. A hearing date is pending.

Demonstrations continue in the downtown area. Last night the We Will Not Be Silent March began just as the Women's Freedom Ride 614 was coming to an end.  The ride featured nearly 200 cyclists to highlight the daily health care disparities black women face.  Both demonstrations were held to support Black Lives Matter and saw no acts of violence or confrontations with law enforcement.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
