Feds Halt Autonomous Shuttle Operations Following Problem In Columbus

Smart Columbus

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ordered an autonomous shuttle company to stop carrying passengers in 16 cities after a mysterious braking problem last week in Columbus that caused minor injuries to a passenger.

One of EasyMile's shuttles in Linden braked suddenly last Thursday, causing a passenger to fall from a seat. EasyMile says the shuttle was traveling 7.1 miles per hour when it made an emergency stop as programmed, but it is unclear what triggered the stop.
