Former OU Professor To Lead Florida A&M Band

Florida A&M University has named former Ohio University music professor Sylvester Young as the new director of its marching band. Young is also the former director of the OU marching band. Florida A&M's band has been suspended since the November 2011 hazing-related death of drum major Robert Champion. Long-time band director Julian White retired and university president James Ammons resigned after Champion's death. Interim university President Larry Robinson has said he will decide later this month whether the band will be back on the field this coming football season.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
