Ohio State University President Gordon Gee has withdrawn as commencement speaker at Saint Francis DeSales High School in Columbus this Saturday after being reprimanded for making disparaging remarks about Notre Dame, Catholics and the Southeastern Conference. OSU says Gee decided not to speak in order to make sure the students and their accomplishments remain the focus of the event. The DeSales' principal says he received a "heartfelt apology" from Gee. Last week, Gee apologized for the comments made in December to the OSU Athletics Council after they were uncovered by The Associated Press. Ohio State trustees, who were told about the comments in early January, warn he could be fired for any more verbal gaffes.
