Ginther Hosts First State Of City Substitute Event

WCBE Files

Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther last night hosted the first of five neighborhood conversations, which are being held this year as an alternative to the traditional State of the City address.

Last night's event dealt with neighborhoods and public safety. The 90-minute session featured Ginther facilitating the discussion with a panel of representatives from the United Way of Central Ohio, Franklin County Common Pleas Court , Columbus City Schools' mentoring program, Community Development for All People, Alvis and the Far South Side Commission. The United Way's Ryan Edwards summed up the theme of the discussion - building trust through relationships and collaborating go a long way in sustaining healthy and safe neighborhoods.

The panel encouraged residents to get involved in their neighborhood associations or start groups if none exist. Attendees could submit written questions, but only five were read. Ginther said the city would follow up with the other questioners. The next conversation takes place February 13 at the Boys and Girls Club on Clarendon Avenue. Topics will include public health and opioid addiction.
