City of Columbus officials Wednesday broke ground on a new 12,000 square-foot police substation on Sancus Boulevard.

The Far North Neighborhood Policing Center will become the home of Precinct 1 and Zone 1 mid-watch patrol. Police say housing both units at this location will improve response times north of I-270. Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther:

The nearly 7.4 million dollar facility will have the latest technology for officers to conduct research and investigations, including the ability to quickly review body camera and cruiser video. There will also be a room to test a person's blood-alcohol level in suspected DUI and OVI cases. Construction is expected to completed by December 2019.
