High-Speed Chase Prompts County Sheriff To Review Policies

twitter.com

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is reviewing a high-speed chase last week that may have violated the department's new policy.

Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert says the November 11th chase lasted five minutes and reached speeds of more than 90 miles per hour. It ended in a crash on Sullivant Avenue:

The deputy who gave chase was also involved in a chase last February that ended in the death of Arthur Smith on Hamilton Road.  In the wake of Smith's death, Sheriff Dallas Baldwin made changes to pursuit policy, which resulted in a 34 percent decrease.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
