Homeland Security Secretary Meets With Columbus Islamic Leaders

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson met yesterday in Columbus with Islamic community leaders to discuss efforts to combat violent extremism. Reporters asked Johnson why he was in Ohio and whether the state might be a target of terrorists.

The U.S. began conducting air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria this week. The department has warned about the possibility of homegrown violent extremists launching attacks out of frustration at the air strikes.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
