A bill passed by the Ohio House Wednesday would bar public schools from penalizing students for reflecting their religious beliefs in their classwork.

The "Student Religious Liberties Act" would require schools to provide religious student groups the same access to faciltities as secular groups, and similar parity in religious expression before during and after school. It would also prohibt schools from penalizing students who express religious convictions in the completeion of homework or other assignments. Sponsoring Republican State Representative Tim Ginter says the measure "is not an expansion but a clarification" of what students can and cannot do.
