HUD Awards Ohio Funding To Increase Affordable Housing And Address Homelessness

HUD

Ohio will receive nearly $201 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for affordable housing. It's part of almost $5 billion in American Rescue Plan funds to help communities across the country create affordable housing and services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge says the funding can also be used for tenant-based rental assistance, supportive services, and acquisition and development of non-congregate shelter units. The money must be spent by 2030. Columbus will receive about $16.4 million and Franklin County about $3.1 million.

In the coming weeks, HUD also plans to announce funding for emergency vouchers for people experiencing and at-risk of homelessness.
