Jackets Sign Nyquist After Losing Three Key Players To Free Agency

usatoday.com

After losing three star players to free agency, the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday signed free agent forward Gustav Nyquist.

The 29-year-old signed a four-year, 22 million dollar deal. He had 22 goals and 38 assists last season with San Jose. Earlier in the day, the Jackets lost forward Artemi Panarin to the New York Rangers, forward Matt Duchene to the Nashville Predators and goalie Sergei Bobrovski to the Florida Panthers. The losses are big blows to a team that won its first playoff series in franchise history this past season. But Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen is optimistic.

The Jackets also signed restricted free agent defenseman Ryan Murray and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
