Judge Declines To Temporarily Block Changes In Health Coverage For Retired First Responders

aia-akronins.com

A Franklin County judge Friday denied a temporary restraining order in the lawsuit seeking to maintain current healthcare coverage for retired Ohio first responders.

The judge said it would have caused more  problems for those retirees enrolled in medicare. The judge also said it was unclear how the more than 23 thousand retirees already enrolled for 2019 would be affected. The retirees argued they were given details of the changes on November 1.  The Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund says retirees not yet old enough to be covered through Medicare will be given a stipend to help pay for insurance on the private market, which has to be used through a managed platform company called Aon. The board says the changes are being made to ensure the long-term future of the fund, and because of partisan bickering in Washington over the Affordable Care Act.
