Kasich Appoints Members Of New Police Standards Board

WCBE Files

Ohio Governor John Kasich has named the members of a first-ever Ohio police standards board that will lay out rules for law enforcement on the proper use of deadly force. The creation of the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board was sparked by a series of fatal police shootings, including the November death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland. The board will create standards for hiring, recruiting and local community interaction, such as such as addressing safety issues and educating people on the daily challenges faced by officers. Members include former state Senator Nina Turner of Cleveland; the Reverend Damon Lynch III of Cincinnati; and Oregon, Ohio, Police Chief Michael Navarre.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
