Latino Communities Protest Federal Plans To Zero Out Refugee Immigration

Jul 24, 2019

Hispanic residents in Columbus and cities around the country held a protest yesterday over the federal government's roundup of undocumented immigrants.

Veronica Isabel Dahlberg of the advocacy group HOLA Ohio says their communities are at a breaking point.

They are also protesting the Trump Administration's plan to cut the refugee ceiling to zero in the next fiscal year.  The Obama Administration set the ceiling at 110 thousand for fiscal year 2017. Federal statistics show Ohio has the third-highest number of immigration arrests in the nation. A 2015 report shows refugees contribute 1.6 billion dollar annually to the regional economy and support more than 21 thousand local jobs.
