Lawsuit Seeks End Of Columbus' Traffic Camera Program

A Franklin County judge is being asked to shut down Columbus' traffic enforcement cameras. A citizen's lawsuit claims the cameras violate the Ohio Constitution by denying drivers a chance to defend themselves. The lawsuit also claims the cameras were installed to boost the city's budget. The Columbus City Attorney's office says the cameras are designed to improve public safety and are not a municipal money grab. A judge recently found similar cameras in the Southwest Ohio village of Elmwood place are illegal.
