Local Man Who Won New Trial Opts Instead For Plea Deal

Franklin County Sheriff's Office

A central Ohio man who admitted fatally stabbing a woman while high on LSD has taken a plea deal rather than proceeding with the new trial he won because a judge misspoke about his eligibility for early release. 37-year-old Chad Davis no longer faces possible life in prison. He's been behind bars for 16 years and will serve 11 more. Davis says he doesn't remember the slaying because of the drugs. His attorney told the judge Davis feels "pure remorse."  Davis was convicted of murder for stabbing 37-year-old Mary Compton in front of her daughters at her Grandview Heights home in 2000. The law then did not allow for early release, but Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Deborah O'Neill said at the time said he might be eligible after 15 years.
