Man, Great-Granddaughter Hurt When House Explodes

Columbus fire officials say a man and his great-granddaughter were injured in a house explosion and fire.

Fire officials say Tuesday morning's blast at a home in the 800 block of Lock Avenue on the south side was likely the result of an accidental natural gas explosion. The 69-year-old man escaped the blast with non-life-threatening- injuries  and has been released from the burn unit at Ohio State University's Medical Center. His 3-year-old great-granddaughter is hospitalized in stable condition with superficial injuries. Columbia Gas says in a statement that it believes there was a gas release that was a result of alterations on a customer-owned gas line within the house. The company says those alterations weren't performed by Columbia Gas and the line is beyond its jurisdiction.
