A manufacturing advocate is pushing the need for a federal export-import bank and why it’s important to Ohio.
Ohio Public Radio's Andy Chow reports.
The National Association of Manufacturers says reauthorizing the federal Export-Import Bank will secure 17,000 manufacturing jobs in Ohio.
The association’s Aric Newhouse says his industry has been harmed by federal overreach; he uses health care laws as an example. But he says the bank, which provides loans for overseas investments, is a federal tool that’s actually useful.
“In getting to a place where competitiveness is the number one agenda, job creation is the number one agenda, where job growth is the number one agenda, that’s what we’re trying to get in Washington,” said Newhouse.
Both of Ohio’s US Senators voted to reauthorize the bank, but after passing the Senate, that bill stalled in the U.S. House.
