More People Traveling This Holday Weekend

Triple-A projects 41.9 million Americans - including nearly 1.8 million Ohioans - will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Independence Day weekend, a slight increase over last year. The auto club credits a stronger economy, rising consumer confidence and lower gasoline prices. Triple-A urges drivers to use caution, saying the weekend is among the busiest for travel during a calendar year. The agency says drivers should slow down, wear a seat belt, and shut off electronic devices. The Ohio Department of Transportation and the State Highway Patrol will be erecting digital message board this weekend about driving safety. The billboards will show the latest traffic death figures, as well as reminders about drunk driving and seat belt use. The state hopes the messages will slow the growth of traffic fatalities this year.
