New Federal Spending Bill Saves Jobs At Portsmouth Plant

The latest federal appropriations for cleanup work at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon are expected to again avert mass layoffs.  Roughly 19 hundred people who work at the plant have been warned about the possibility of layoffs over the past two years as they waited on last-minute approval of funding. The site project director says the appropriation should provide enough money to maintain the current level of cleanup work. The federal funding bill also allocates nearly 22 million dollars toward creating an on-site waste disposal facility. That's enough to for site preparation and design work.
