New Lawsuit Filed Against Former CDP Vice Cop

U.S. Attorney's Office

A federal judge has scheduled a March 30 trial date for a former Columbus police vice squad officer accused of forcing women to have sex with him under threat of an arrest.

Andrew Mitchell is also charged with pressuring others to help cover up crimes and lying to federal investigators. Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to the federal counts and to state charges of fatally shooting Donna Castleberry during an undercover prostitution investigation. Meanwhile, a newly filed lawsuit claims Mitchell raped a woman twice. The plaintiff filed anonymously out of fear of retaliation. Her attorney says the woman, a former prostitute and drug addict, has been interviewed by authorities. Mitchell’s attorney declined to comment.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
