New Payment Plan For Suspended Drivers Now In Effect

Ohio officials hope to get hundreds of thousands of suspended drivers back on the road - and in some cases back to work - more quickly by allowing them to pay license reinstatement fees in monthly installments and legally resume driving in the meantime. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles says nearly half of Ohio's 1 million suspended drivers are eligible for the new payment plan. It will apply to drivers whose only remaining license reinstatement requirement is paying 150 dollars or more in outstanding fees. It excludes those who have court-ordered pending suspensions or payment plans. Applicants must prove they have insurance and make a 50 dollar payment toward their fees. Approved participants must then make 50 dollar monthly payments to avoid being suspended again.
