NOAA Predicts Another Large Algae Bloom In Lake Erie This Summer

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration researchers are warning another large toxic algae bloom will spread across western Lake Erie later this summer.

NOAA scientists project this year's bloom is likely to be among the five largest since they began ranking them in 2002. Heavy spring and summer rains and farm fertilizer runoff will help fuel the bloom. Five years ago a bloom caused a two-day shutdown of Toledo's drinking water system.
