OEC: 2 JobsOhio Board Members Had Potential Conflicts Of Interest

The Ohio Ethics Commission has ruled a tax break deal struck last year with Findlay-based Marathon Petroleum posed a potential conflict of interest for two directors of JobsOhio, the privatized economic-development entity spearheaded by Republican Governor John Kasich. A spokesperson for the entity claims Marathon CEO Gary Heminger and Steven Davis, who served on the JobsOhio and Marathon boards, averted conflict of interest by stepping aside from decision-making. Critics of JobsOhios say a lack of transparency prevents knowing how directors behaved in recommending hefty tax breaks for Marathon. The directors are among four JobsOhio directors and 24 employees sent ethics warning letters following a routine annual review.
