Ohio National Guard Sending Soldiers To Florida To Help With Irma Recovery

ong.ohio.gov

The Ohio National Guard's Adjutant General says as many as 35 hundred Guard soldiers will be sent to Florida to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Major General Mark Bartman told the Associated Press on Saturday the service members will be part of a contingent of 7 thousand soldiers from National Guard units in Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Ohio Guard soldiers will head to Florida sometime this week. They will be involved in varying missions that could include providing security alongside local law enforcement and helping transport stranded people to shelters. It's the Guard's first large deployment for U.S. disaster relief since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
