Ohio's Unemployment Rate For January Is Up From December

Ohio's unemployment rate for January is 4.9 percent, an increase of one-tenth of a point from December. Figures released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services show non-farm payrolls increased in January by 100 to nearly 5.5 million. The number of jobless workers in the state is 279 thousand, up by 6 thousand from December. The state saw job gains in construction, manufacturing and the leisure and hospitality sectors. Job losses were reported in the mining and logging, and professional and business services sectors. The Labor Department today said the U.S. unemployment rate held steady in February at 4.9 percent. The economy added 242 thousand jobs last month.
