Ohio State University has sent a letter to students warning them failing to adhere to social distancing and other coronavirus safety measures could mean disciplinary action.
The university says everyone must follow health and safety requirements on and off campus. This after reports of people hosting large parties without wearing facemasks and practing social distancing. OSU says any student who hosts or attends a party with 10 or more people will face an interim suspension. Organizations holding such gatherings could lose their university recognition and funding. The school is asking anyone who sees a gathering that poses a health or safety risk to call local authorities, who will respond and inform the occupants of the residence they have been reported to Student Conduct and should disband. OSU says the Office of Student Life is also monitoring off-campus neighborhoods. Before being allowed to return to campus, students were required by the school to sign what OSU calls the "Buckeye Pledge" agreement detailing safety and health guidelines.
