Over 300 State Patrol Troopers and Ohio National Guards Will Head To Texas

Ohio Governor DeWine is sending 14 Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers to the Texas border to help local law enforcement with surveillance.

The two-week deployment is in response to a request from Texas Governor Greg Abbott as part of a surge in law enforcment at the border. The Ohio troopers will not be empowered to make arrests.

DeWine last week approved sending 185 members of the Ohio National Guard to Texas later in 2021, following a request from the Department of Homeland Security and the National Guard Bureau. They will supplement 115 members of the Guard's 1484th Transportation Company already supporting the Southwest Border Operations.

On Friday, the Ohio National Guard wrapped up nearly sixteen months spent helping foodbanks and food pantries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
