Parole Board Recommends Against Clemency For McGuire

The Ohio Parole Board today recommended the Governor not grant clemency to a death row inmate convicted of raping and killing a pregnant Preble County woman in 1989. The board rejected defense attorneys' arguments that 53-year-old Dennis McGuire deserves clemency because of his chaotic and abusive childhood. McGuire is scheduled for execution by lethal injection on January 16th. The state will announce next month whether it will use a a specialty dose of pentobarbital or a two-drug dose. Neither method has been used before.
