Pelotonia will donate more than $100 million to Ohio State University for cancer research. The group will give the money over the next five-years.
Officials say it will be used to develop the Pelotonia Institute of Immuno-Oncology at different cancer hospitals in the health system. The institute will focus exclusively on the area of research that harnesses the body’s immune system to fight cancer.
Since 2009, the group has raised money mainly through a massive bike ride across central and southeast Ohio. The 11th edition takes place next weekend with cyclists signed up to ride from 25-to-200 miles. Last year's event raised $27.4 million.
